Day 20: The land of Cs
Aug 20th, 2005 by Nuts On Bents
Why is everything Switzerland is famous for starts with the letter C?? Cheese, cuckoo clocks and chocolate and the Cwiss Guard (the correct spelling for it) :p
3 days is all it took to cross Switzerland – mind you we crossed it over the narrowest part. The first day was a great descent of 25 miles down from the Jura mountains to Lake Lausanne, with some of the loveliest views of the trip so far. Following the lake round to the south side we have started the climb up the Alps.
Tonight we are camped at Bourg St Pierre on the Alps, probably the highest camp in Europe. We are physically and mentally ready for the big push up to the Grand St Bernard Pass tomorrow – or so we think!! At 2473m it is the highest road pass over the Alps. Why oh why did Anne Mustoe decide to cross it this way?! Since we are following in her footsteps (literally!) we cannot NOT go this way!
Wish us luck – big push tomorrow!
